Texas A&M 2011 Season Odds
(The Spread) – It has been 13 years since the Texas A&M Aggies last claimed a conference championship. Will 2011 be the year the Aggies break through?
After a 9-4 season in 2010, Aggie fans have hope in coach Mike Sherman to take Texas A&M to the next level in his fourth season with the team. The Aggies bring back a total of 20 starters from a team that was 6-2 in Big 12 play last season.
According to oddsmakers the Aggies have 40/1 odds to win the 2012 BCS National Championship while they have 3/1 odds to win the Big 12 title. Texas A&M has been given over/under odds of 8.5 wins for 2011.
The Aggies have won the national title one time in program history, way back in 1939. They do own a total of 18 conference titles, with the last coming in 1998. The Aggies averaged 442 yards and 31.2 points per game on offense in 2010, and 10 starters are back this season. Leading the way is quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who threw for 1,638 yards and 13 touchdowns in limited action in 2010. Tannehill is actually on the Heisman radar, as oddsmakers have given him 60/1 odds to win the season MVP. Defensively, eight starters are back for Texas A&M, but the Aggies lose Von Miller, who had 10.5 sacks in 2010.
The season schedule begins with a home game against SMU for the Aggies. Texas A&M will also host Arkansas in non-conference action. Conference play sees the Aggies heading to Oklahoma while hosting the likes of Missouri, Oklahoma State, and Texas. Texas A&M has won nine games just two times over the last 10 years.
In terms of the spread, Texas A&M was 8-4-1 in 2010. It was the first time since 2006 that the Aggies had a winning record against the spread. The Aggies were 3-1 against the spread on turf. For the over/under, Texas A&M hit the over in 7 of 13 lined games. The Aggies hit the over in 4 of 5 road games.
