2011 College Football Week 1 Odds
(The Spread) – Oddsmakers have yet to release the point spreads for Week 1 in College Football but that doesn’t mean we can’t preview some of the bigger games.
The Oklahoma Sooners currently own the top spot in the college football preseason polls and will host Tulsa in Week 1. The Sooners finished 6-2 last year in the Big 12 South and have a legit Heisman candidate at quarterback in Landry Jones. He’ll miss running back DeMarco Murray (Cowboys), but Jones will lead one of the nation’s best passing attacks in 2011.
Alabama ranks No. 2 in the preseason polls and will face the MAC’s Kent State on September 3. The Crimson Tide had an excellent recruiting year and under head coach Nick Saban’s guidance, ‘Bama should once again be a force defensively this season. Look for the Tide to bounce back after posting a disappointing 5-3 record in the SEC West last season.
No. 3 Oregon and its high-powered offense will take on LSU at 8:00PM ET on Saturday, September 3 in what figures to be an outstanding game. The Tigers are returning seven starters on defense, but Chip Kelly’s offense proved it could score on most opponents last season. With LSU ranked No. 4 in the preseason polls, it doesn’t get better than this in Week 1.
With the mess that Ohio State is in, Wisconsin is expected to challenge Nebraska for the top spot in the Big Ten this year. According to the USA Today Preseason Polls, the Badgers are ranked No. 10 behind Texas A&M, while the Cornhuskers are listed right behind Wisconsin at No. 11. The Badgers will host UNLV on Thursday, September 1.
No. 5 Florida State will host Louisiana-Monroe in Week 1, while Andrew Luck and No. 6 Stanford will host San Jose State at 5:00PM ET on Saturday. No. 7 Boise State will travel to Georgia to take on the Bulldogs at 8:00PM ET on Saturday, while No. 8 Oklahoma State will play Louisiana-Lafayette and No. 9 Texas A&M will host SMU at 7:30PM ET on Sunday.
