College Football Week 8 Free Picks
(The Spread) – Which four teams made our top selections for Week 8 in college football? Read on to find out.
We started off strong in Week 7 only to end with a thud. We hit Wisconsin as a 39.5-point favorite over Indiana and Oklahoma State as a 7-point fave against Texas, but our two underdogs failed to produce. Memphis (+14) couldn’t hold on to a halftime lead against East Carolina and Idaho (+1) was stopped at the goal line in the final seconds against New Mexico State. A touchdown would have sent the Vandals and Aggies to overtime, giving the Idaho pick a chance to cover. Nevertheless, it wasn’t meant to be.

That effort put us at 17-11 for the season and we’re still searching for our first 4-0 sweep in college football. Here are our top four picks for Week 8.
It’s feasible that the Fighting Illini had their confidence shaken last Saturday against Ohio State, which held Illinois to just a touchdown in a 17-7 victory. The Boilermakers have played some bad football this year but they’ve looked better the past two weeks, which includes a 45-17 thumping of Minnesota and a 23-18 loss to Penn State on the road last Saturday. According to latest college football trends, the home team is 5-2 against the spread in the last seven meetings between these two teams while Purdue is 4-1 ATS in its last five conference games. Meanwhile, the Illini are 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games as a favorite of between 3.0 and 10 points and are 1-5 ATS in their last six games as a road favorite of between 3.5 to 10 points.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 8 FREE PICK: PURDUE BOILERMAKERS +3.5
Arkansas @ Mississippi, 12:20PM ET
The Razorbacks are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games against the Rebels, and are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite. Arkansas is also 13-3 ATS in its last 16 conference games and 10-3 ATS in its last 13 games overall. On the other side, Ole Miss is just 1-4 ATS in its last five games overall and 1-5 ATS in its last six games as a home underdog. The Rebs are also 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games and 0-4 ATS in their last four conference matchups.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 8 FREE PICK: ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS –15.5
The Ducks still managed to rattle off 41 points against Arizona State last Saturday but they were definitely not the same explosive offense as when LaMichael James is toting the rock. Both he and quarterback Darron Thomas are very questionable for this weekend’s game, which means Oregon could look like a completely different offense in Boulder. Colorado has been a small disaster this year at 1-6 but the Buffs have at least been able to keep things close at home. They covered against Cal and Colorado State in earlier September and if both James and Thomas don’t play, there’s a good chance they cover the nearly four-touchdown spread on Saturday. Keep a close eye on the Ducks’ injury situation leading up to the game but don’t wait to long to hop on the big spread.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 8 FREE PICK: COLORADO BUFFALOS +31
Tennessee @ Alabama, 7:15PM ET
The Vols have major issues at quarterback as Tyler Bray continues to nurse a thumb injury. Matt Simms didn’t fair too well against an aggressive LSU defense last Saturday while completing just six of his 20 pass attempts for 128 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Things don’t get easier for Phil Simms’ son this Saturday with a trip to Tuscaloosa on the docket. According to latest college football trends, Tennessee is 1-5-1 against the spread in its last seven games against Alabama, which is 4-0 ATS in its last four conference games. The Tide are also 4-0 ATS in its last four games overall and 4-1 ATS in its last five home games.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 8 FREE PICK: ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE –29.5
