Heisman Trophy Odds
(The Spread) – The five finalists for the 2011 Heisman Trophy have been announced. Here is a look at each finalist and their odds to win the player of the year award.

The finalists for the Heisman are Robert Griffin III (Baylor), Andrew Luck (Stanford), Trent Richardson (Alabama), Tyrann Mathieu (LSU), and Montee Ball (Wisconsin).
According to oddsmakers, Griffin III is the clear favorite to win the trophy with odds of 1/6 to win. Luck is next in line with 13/4 odds while Richardson has 7/2 odds. Mathieu (20/1) and Ball (100/1) have the longest odds to win.
Griffin III is a junior quarterback out of Baylor and he has thrown for 3,998 yards on 267-of-369 passing this year. He has 36 touchdown passes with only 6 INT. He also rushed for 644 yards and 9 TD’s on the season. He failed to not throw a touchdown pass in any game last season. Baylor went 9-3 this season.
Luck is a junior quarterback out of Stanford. He has thrown for 3,170 yards on 261-of-373 passing. Luck had 35 touchdowns with 9 interceptions on the year. He also had two rushing touchdowns. Luck had at least two touchdown passes in every game this season. Stanford went 11-1 on the season.
Richardson is a junior running back out of Alabama. He has rushed for 1,583 yards on 263 carries and 20 TD’s this season. He also caught 27 passes for 327 yards and 3 TD’s. Richardson averaged 6 yards per carry and 131.9 yards per game. Alabama went 11-1 this season and will play LSU in the BCS National Championship.
Mathieu is a sophomore cornerback from LSU. He leads LSU in tackles with 70 and also has 6.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He has 2 INT’s with 9 pass deflections with 6 forced fumbles and 5 fumble recoveries. Mathieu also has 2 punt returns for TD’s and has an average punt return of 16.2 yards. Mathieu helped lead LSU to a 13-0 perfect season, SEC Championship, and BCS National Title appearance.
Ball is a junior running back out of Wisconsin. He has rushed for 1,759 yards on 275 carries with 32 TD’s. He also has 20 receptions for 256 yards and 6 TD’s. He is closing in on Barry Sander’s all-time record for TD’s in a season (39). Ball averages 6.4 yards per carry and 135.3 yards per game. Wisconsin is 11-2 this season and the Big Ten Champion.
In the history of the Heisman Trophy, 43 running backs have won the award, 28 QB’s have won the title, and just one cornerback has won. A quarterback has won four of the last five Heismans.
