Oklahoma came into the season as the preseason No. 1 team but the Sooners went just 6-3 in the Big 12 and lost two of their final three games to close the regular season. Oklahoma has one of the top offenses in the country as they rank 10th in points (40.3 per game) and fourth in passing yards (365.1 per game). Quarterback Landry Jones has led the team with 4,302 passing yards and 28 TD’s. Defensively, Oklahoma has allowed just 22.8 points per game.
Iowa went 4-4 in the Big Ten Conference this season but like Oklahoma, the Hawkeyes closed the season losing two of their final three games. Iowa also comes into the game with some team issues as running back Marcus Coker, who has rushed for 1,384 yards and 15 TD’s was suspended for this bowl game. The offense averaged 28.7 points per game on the season thanks to quarterback James Vandenberg, who has thrown for 2,806 yards and 23 TD’s. Defensively, Iowa is holding opponents to just 23.3 points per game.
In terms of Injuries, Iowa offensive lineman Nolan MacMillan is doubtful with a hernia while Oklahoma receiver Jaz Reynolds (kidney) and defensive end Ronnell Lewis (academics) are both doubtful to play in this contest.
