2011 BCS Title Game Recap:
Auburn and Oregon met for the first time in the two schools’ history, with the Tigers edging the Ducks, 22-19. After a scoreless first quarter, Rob Beard hit a 26-yard field goal for Oregon to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead, but then Auburn answered back with a Kodi Burns 35-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Cam Newton. LaMichael James countered with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Darron Thomas and after Oregon successfully converted a 2-point conversion, they led 11-7 with 10:58 to go in the second quarter.
The Tigers weren’t done though. Mike Blanc tackled James in the end zone for a safety at the 3:26 mark, then Emory Blake caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Newton to give Auburn a 16-11 lead.
Outside of 28-yard field goal by Byrum in the third quarter, that was all the scoring until 2:33 left in the fourth quarter when James caught a 2-yard pass from Thomas to make the score 19-17 Auburn. Thomas then found Jeff Maehl for the 2-point conversion attempt to tie the score at 19-all.
On the next possession, Auburn running back Michael Dyer (the game’s offensive MVP) made an amazing 37-yard run after it looked like he was initially down, although he rolled over a defender and kept his knee of the ground. The Tigers then drive the ball to the one-yard line and kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired.
