2012-13 Big East Odds to Win
(The Spread) – After watching two other teams finish ahead of them in the overall standings in 2011, the Louisville Cardinals have opened as the favorites to win the Big East Conference this season.
Oddsmakers have installed Louisville as a 9/4 favorite to win the Big East in 2012-13, while the Cincinnati Bearcats have the next best odds at 5/2. The South Florida Bulls are 7/2 to win the conference, while the PITT Panthers and Rutgers Scarlett Knights are 13/2, respectively. The Syracuse Orange and Temple Owls are 20/1, respectively, to win the Big East this season, while the Connecticut Huskies are the current long shots at 25/1.
Cincinnati and West Virginia (now with the Big 12) finished with 10-3 records last year, while Louisville was 7-6 overall. Rutgers finished 9-4 and 4-3 in conference play, while PITT went 6-7 and 4-3 in the Big East. Connecticut, South Florida and Syracuse all finished with 5-7 overall records and were 1-6 in the Big East, while Temple went 9-4 in the MAC. (The Owls are newcomers in the Big East.)

The Cardinals were an unproven bunch a year ago but suddenly they’ve transformed into the favorites in the Big East. Their talent, specifically quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, is starting to peak under head coach Charlie Strong and you have to like Louisville’s chances of being in the mix at the end of the season.
As for the Bearcats, they’ve lost a lot of talent off their 10-win team last year but head coach Butch Jones should make Cincinnati a competitor again this year. PITT, meanwhile, are looking for stability after hiring Paul Chryst, their fourth different coach in the last 20 months. Rutgers also went through a major change this offseason when Kyle Flood took over for long-time head coach Greg Schiano.
