2012-13 Big 12 Conference Odds
(The Spread) – After finishing in the top 20 in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today polls last year, the Oklahoma Sooners are currently favored to win the Big 12 Conference in 2012.
Oddsmakers currently list the Sooners as 1/1 favorites to win the Big 12 this season while the Texas Longhorns have the next best odds at 4/1. The TCU Horned Frogs are 11/2, the West Virginia Mountaineers are 6/1 and the Kansas State Wildcats are currently 12/1 to win the Big 12.
Continuing with the odds, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are 18/1 to win the Big 12 Conference this year, while the Texas Tech Red Raiders are 30/1. The Baylor Bears are 40/1, the Iowa State Cyclones are 65/1 and in Charlie Weis first season in Lawrence, the Kansas Jayhawks are the conference’s biggest long shots at 100/1.

Oklahoma made news this offseason by hiring Mike Stoops as defensive coordinator. Stoops was in charge of the 2000 Sooner defense that held Florida State to 2 points in the 2001 Orange Bowl. The Sooners have a ton of offense thanks to quarterbacks Landry Jones and Blake Bell, as well as receiver Trey Metoyer so if Stoops can revitalize the defense then Oklahoma will be tough to beat this year.
Meanwhile, Texas has a quarterback competition brewing between David Ash, Case McCoy and freshman Connor Brewer. But despite a potential problem there, the rest of the team should be ready to explode after younger players Malcolm Brown, Joe Bergeron, Jaxon Shipley and Mike Davis got valuable experience last year.
It’ll be interesting to see how newcomer TCU fairs in the conference and how Baylor performs now that 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III and top wideout Kendall Wright are both in the NFL. It’s easy to grasp why the Bears are a one of the long shots.
