LSU Season Odds
BATON ROUGE, LA (The Spread) – The LSU Tigers have had an interesting couple of weeks leading up to the 2012 College Football Season. Here is a look at their updated odds for the season.

Les Miles made big waves when he dismissed junior cornerback Tyrann Mathieu from the team for undisclosed reasons. Just last year, Mathieu was a Heisman Trophy finalist and he came into the preseason with 40/1 odds to win the award this year. Despite the loss, LSU still looks primed for success as Miles enters his eighth season as head coach.
According to oddsmakers, the Tigers have 11/5 odds to win the SEC Championship, which they did a year ago. LSU has also been given 8/5 odds to win the SEC West Division and 6/1 odds to be the 2013 BCS National Champion. The over/under for wins on the year has been set at 10.
LSU brings back seven starters back on offense including its top four rushers that combined for over 2,300 yards and 30 TD’s a year ago. The Tigers will have a new quarterback in junior Zach Mettenberger, who saw limited action last season, but the passing game is expected to be improved. LSU will be strong up front as it returns four starters on the offensive line.
Defensively, LSU has five starters back after the loss of Mathieu. LSU allowed just 11.3 points and 262 yards per game a year ago. The points allowed were the fewest by a Miles coached LSU team. The Tigers will be led by a pair of talented defensive ends in Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery. The two combined for 17 sacks in 2011 and Mingo also had 11 quarterback hurries. LSU will be replacing three starters in the secondary, but the depth the Tigers have should make up for it.
When looking at the schedule, LSU has a light non-conference schedule, with its toughest game being against Washington at home. In SEC play, LSU will host the likes of South Carolina and Alabama while hitting the road against Florida, Auburn, and Arkansas. Miles has led LSU to at least 11 wins in five of his seven seasons with the Tigers and I suspect he can do it again this year.
