Ohio State Season Odds
COLUMBUS, OH (The Spread) – The Ohio State Buckeyes have the talent to contend for championships in the 2012 College Football Season, but the NCAA won’t allow it.

The 2011 season saw the end of the Jim Tressel era due to NCAA violations, which ultimately led to a one-year postseason ban for this season. Still, Urban Meyer begins his run as coach of the Buckeyes, which has the Ohio State fan base excited. While Ohio State can’t contend for the BCS National Championship or the Big Ten Championship, they still could be the best team in the conference this year.
According to oddsmakers, the only odds available for the Buckeyes this season are the over/under win total, which has been set at 8.5. The Ohio State quarterback, Braxton Miller, has also been listed with 67/1 odds to win the 2012 Heisman Trophy.
Miller enters his sophomore season with Ohio State after taking over the starting role midway through his freshman season. He threw for 1,159 yards and 13 TD’s with just 4 INT’s last season while rushing for 715 yards and 7 TD’s. Miller is one of six starters back on offense from last year’s 6-7 team. The top three receivers from a year ago are back, but the Buckeyes have to replace three starters on the line. The general feel is that Meyer should get the best out of Miller, due to his experience with mobile quarterbacks.
On defense, Ohio State brings back nine starters from a unit that allowed 21 points and 324 yards per game. Both were big drops in production from recent seasons. Ohio State allowed 142 rushing yards per game last year, which was the first time they allowed over an average of 100 yards since 2008. The entire front four is back on the defense, including senior John Simon, who had seven sacks last season. The Buckeyes also bring back their entire starting secondary.
When looking at the schedule, Ohio State has four non-conference games at home. The toughest of the four will be a meeting with Cal on Sept. 15. Conference home games include Nebraska, Illinois, and rival Michigan. Road trips include to Michigan State and Wisconsin. The Buckeyes can’t play for a championship, so closing the year at Wisconsin and then at home against bitter rival, Michigan, will be their BCS Championship. The Buckeyes would like nothing more than to spoil Michigan or Wisconsin’s plans. Ohio State has 12 games and need to win 9 to hit the over. I think they can do so with Meyer at the helm.
