USC Season Odds
LOS ANGELES, CA (The Spread) – The USC Trojans are off their postseason ban this season and now look to be ready to contend for national titles once again. Here is a look at their odds to do so.
View Current College Football Odds
USC enters its third season with Lane Kiffin as is primed to make a run at the national title despite dealing with scholarship losses and postseason bans the last two years. This season, Kiffin has 18 starters back from 2011.
According to oddsmakers, the Trojans are the favorite to win the 2013 BCS National Championship, as they have 7/2 odds to win it all. Oddsmakers have given USC 5/8 odds to win the Pac-12 Championship and 1/6 odds to win the Pac-12 South. The over/under win total for the year has been set at 10.5 games.
The big reason oddsmakers like USC so much is for its offense and quarterback Matt Barkley. The senior is regarded as the top prop prospect this year in college football. He threw for 3,528 yards and 39 TD’s a year ago and could put up 4,000 yards this season. Barkley is the favorite to win the 2012 Heisman Trophy, as he has 3/1 odds to win. Barkley has his top two receivers back, both who had over 1,100 receiving yards in 2011. Robert Woods caught 111 passes for 1,292 yards and 15 TD’s while Marqise Lee had 73 receptions for 1,143 yards and 11 scores. Woods has 55/1 odds to win the Heisman while Lee has 70/1 odds. The Trojans also have 1,000-yard rusher Curtis McNeal back in the lineup, along with four starters on the offensive line.
Defensively, the Trojans have 7 starters back, including their top four tacklers from a year ago. The Trojans will have to improve on their 375 yards allowed per game last year to truly contend for the BCS title. USC also had just 31 sacks a year ago and lose their top pass rusher from 2011, so the front four, which has just one starter back, will need to show improvement.
When looking at the schedule, USC will travel to Stanford, Utah, Arizona, and UCLA in conference play this season while hosting Cal, Arizona State, and most importantly, Oregon. The Trojans close the year at home against Notre Dame. If USC is truly going to contend, or win, the national title, they will certainly need more than 10.5 wins to do so.
