New Mexico and Texas both come into the game 1-0 overall. The Longhorns are 0-1 against the spread following a 37-17 win over Wyoming at home while New Mexico didn’t have a point spread for its 66-21 win over Southern. Texas has won both meetings with New Mexico by a combined score of 94-0.
Trends show that New Mexico is just 2-10 against the spread in their last 12 games in September and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against Big 12 opponents. Texas is just 4-11 ATS in its last 15 games following a win and 7-16-1 ATS in their last 24 home games.
Oddsmakers see Texas as the clear favorite in this game as the Longhorns have been given odds of -38 points against New Mexico. The over/under total for the game has been set at 52 points. Texas wasn’t overly dominant in its win over Wyoming last week. The Longhorns out-gained the Cowboys 436-345. The Texas defense struggled against the pass, allowing 276 yards, but did hold Wyoming to just 69 rushing yards. Offensively, Texas had a pair of 100-yard rushers in Joe Bergeron and Malcolm Brown. They combined for 215 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
Despite the lopsided score, New Mexico only out-gained Southern 417-320 in total yards. The Lobos did have two defensive touchdowns and a kick return for a score as well. Offensively, New Mexico was led by Demarcus Rogers, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. The Lobos totaled 347 rushing yards as a team.
In terms of Injuries, Texas kicker Anthony Fera is doubtful for Saturday’s game due to a groin injury. New Mexico defensive tackle Rod Davis is expected to miss the game due to a suspension.
