According to oddsmakers, USC quarterback Matt Barkley is the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, as he has 3/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Wisconsin running back Montee Ball (4/1), Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson (5/1), and Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones (6/1).
Barkley is entering his senior season at USC in 2012 and he will be a fourth-year starter at QB for the Trojans. This past season he threw for 3,528 yards and 39 TD’s with just 7 INT’s. Barkley has 80 TD’s and 33 INT’s in his college career. USC is considered to be one of the top teams heading into the season.
Ball will be a senior for Wisconsin and he is coming off an incredible year where he rushed for 1,923 yards and 33 TD’s while catching 24 passes for 307 yards and 6 TD’s. Ball scored a TD in every game this season. This was the first year that Ball was the lone featured back for the Badgers. He should also be the featured back this upcoming season.
Robinson will be a senior for Michigan. He is a dual-threat quarterback that has rushed for over 1,100 yards the last two seasons. In 2011, Robinson threw for 2,173 yards with 20 TD’s and 15 INT’s while rushing for 1,176 yards and 16 TD’s. Robinson has just 40 passing TD’s with 30 INT’s in his career, but he has 3,132 rushing yards and 35 TD’s as well.
Jones will be a redshirt senior entering the 2012 season. Last season he threw for 4,463 yards and 29 TD’s with 15 INT’s which was a step back from throwing for 4,718 yards with 38 TD’s and 12 INT’s in the 2010 season. Jones has 93 TD’s and 41 INT’s in his career. Jones struggled down the stretch of this season, throwing just one touchdown with eight INT’s over his final four games.
