According to oddsmakers at GTBets, Marshall is the favorite in this game, as the Thundering Herd are getting odds of -7.5 points against the Boilermakers at home. The over/under total has been set at 61.5 points. These two last met in 2012, with Purdue getting a 51-41 win at home, but Marshall covering a 17-point spread.

Marshall was 13-1 last season and 7-1 in Conference USA. The Herd won the conference title last season and were 9-5 against the spread while going 8-6 with the over. The Herd come into today have covered the spread in their last 4 non-conference games. Doc Holliday is entering his sixth season as head coach of Marshall. He has a 40-25 record over the last five years. Holliday has to replace a very productive QB in Rakeem Cato, who threw for just under 4,000 yards in 2014, but one thing Holliday does have is a stud running back in Devon Johnson. Johnson rushed for 1,767 yards and 17 touchdowns last year and will lead this Marshall offense.

Purdue is coming off a 3-9 2014 season where it went 1-7 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers were 6-5-1 against the spread last year while going 6-6 with the over/under total. Purdue is 3-1-2 against the spread in its last 6 road games. Darrell Hazell enters his third season as coach at Purdue. Hazell is just 4-20 overall and 1-15 in two years with the Boilermakers. Hazell has named Austin Appleby the team’s starting quarterback despite going just 144 of 272 passing for 1,449 yards with 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season. The Purdue offense could still be a work in progress.
