(The Spread) – Boise State is making the move from the WAC to the Mountain West Conference in 2011. Will the switch help the Broncos attempt to win the BCS National Title?
Chris Petersen is in his sixth season as head coach of Boise State. He has guided the Broncos to double digit wins in every season with the team, including two undefeated seasons. This year, Boise State returns 14 starters from a team that went 12-1 in 2011.
According to oddsmakers, Boise State has 12/1 odds to win the 2012 BCS National Championship and 2/7 odds to win the Mountain West Conference title. Oddsmakers have set the over/under win total for Boise State at 10.5 games.

Boise State has a prolific offense, led by quarterback Kellen Moore, who threw for 3,845 yards and 35 touchdowns last season. Moore is back for his senior season and he has 15/1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy this year. Running back Doug Martin also returns this season. He rushed for 1,260 yards and 12 scores in 2010. As a team, Boise State averaged 45.1 points and 521 yards per game. Defensively, the Broncos allowed just 12.8 points and 255 yards per game. The defense will be led by defensive end Shea McClellin, who had 9.5 sacks in 2010 to lead the team.
Boise State has never won a national title as a FBS program, but it does own 16 conference championships. It has won the WAC the last three seasons, but now moves into a more competitive conference. The schedule this season is tougher than usual. The Broncos open the season with a game against Georgia in Atlanta. Boise State then has road games at Fresno State and San Diego State, while hosting the likes of TCU, Nevada, and Air Force.
When it comes to the spread, Boise State was 9-4 against the spread in 2010. It was the 10th-straight season the Broncos had a .500 record or better against the spread. Boise State was 5-1 against the spread on the road last season. Despite the strong record against the spread, Boise State hit the under in 7 of 13 lined games. They hit the under in 4 of their 6 road games.
