ACC Championship Predictions: Clemson vs. Virginia Tech 12/3/16

ACC Championship Prediction

Will No. 3 Clemson have any trouble when it takes on No. 23 Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship tonight at 8PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Clemson is the favorite on the road, as the Tigers are getting odds of -10 points against the Tigers. The over/under total is listed at 59 points. These two will meet tonight at 8PM ET from Camping World Stadium in Orlando, FL. These two haven’t met up since 2012, but Clemson has won and covered the spread in the last three meetings with Virginia Tech.

Bet on ACC Championship

Clemson is the defending ACC champ and looking to punch its ticket to the playoffs for the second straight year. The Tigers went 11-1 in the regular season and they are 6-6 against the spread this year, but just 2-4 ATS in their last six. Clemson has a very dynamic offense that is averaging 40 points per game on the year. The Tigers also put up 508.7 yards per game. Deshaun Watson remains one of the top players in the nation, as he has thrown for 3,626 yards and 34 touchdowns while rushing for 444 yards and four scores. Wayne Gallman has added 943 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Defensively, Clemson can hold its own. The Tigers are giving up just 17 points and 307.9 yards per game. They are especially tough against the pass, giving up just 180.2 yards per game through the air.

Virginia Tech is just 9-3 on the season with a 6-6 mark against the spread, but the Hokies have covered in two straight and in the last game they were an underdog. Virginia Tech also has an impressive defense that is allowing just 21.1 points and 332.2 yards per game this season. Like Clemson, Tech is strong against the pass, allowing just 186.4 yards per game through the air. Offensively, Tech is putting up 34.8 points and 453.4 yards per game. Jerod Evans has been playing at a high level to lead the Hokies on offense. He has thrown for 3,045 yards and 26 touchdowns while rushing for 713 yards and eight scores. Travon McMillian has added 600 rushing yards and four scores. Isaiah Ford is the leading receiver for Tech with 69 catches for 949 yards and seven touchdowns.

Clemson is the better team on paper, but Tech has the capability to play to the Tigers’ level. The Hokies have beat some good teams this year, but also have some bad losses, so it is hard to know just what to expect. However, Clemson has had a number of close calls during the last few months of the season and I expect another one tonight. Virginia Tech doesn’t have much to lose here, so look for the Hokies to play lose and throw everything they have at Clemson.
