Late Sunday night Alabama was still a 7-point favorite over Clemson for tonight’s College Football National Championship Game presented by AT&T. But according to oddsmakers from online sports book RealBet.eu, the Crimson Tide is now a 6.5-point favorite to beat the Tigers and be crowned national champions. The total has also dropped drastically from its opening number, falling from 53.5 down to 50.5.
The line has bounced back and forth like a ping-pong ball all week. Alabama originally opened as a 7-point favorite after crushing Michigan State 38-0 in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s eve. Then bettors started to hit Clemson at that number and drove the line down to 6.5 before the side would climb back to a touchdown. At no point has the spread risen to 7.5.
Our NCAA College Football Public Betting page shows that 63% of wagers are currently on Alabama. Given how the line keeps bouncing back and forth between 7 and 6.5, sharps and public bettors appear to be on opposite sides of this matchup. If they were on the same side, Alabama would either stay at -7 or the line would rise even higher.
Instead, oddsmakers are have likely been forced to move the line given the constant tug-of-war between public bettors and sharps.
