Alabama is 11-1 this season and holds the top spot in the AP and college football playoff rankings. The Tide are just 4-8 against the spread this season as they enter Saturday’s game winners of seven straight, but five of those wins have been by 14 points or less.
Seeing their recent competitive games, oddsmakers haven’t made Alabama a runaway favorite for Saturday’s 4PM kickoff on CBS, as oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, have the Tide as a 14.5-point favorite against Missouri (View Matchup). The over/under total for the game is listed at 48.5 points.
Missouri quietly worked its way into the SEC title game, winning the East for the second straight season by winning its last six games of the season. The Tigers’ last five games were all decided by 10 points or less, but the Tigers were the underdog entering five of the six wins. Missouri may have to get over a 2012 loss to Alabama that saw a final score of 42-10 where the Tide racked up 362 rushing yards to just 3 for Missouri.
Missouri also has quietly developed a strong defense that is allowing just 331.1 yards per game, which ranks fifth in the SEC, but is still one of the nation’s best totals. Alabama is posting 489.3 yards per game this season on offense, but turnovers have been an issue recently. Missouri’s defensive focus will have to be on stopping Alabama receiver Amari Cooper, who has 103 receptions for 1,573 yards and 14 scores. Cooper makes up nearly half of the team’s receiving yardage.
