Alabama Crimson Tide Game Notes
Alabama redshirt sophomore QB Mac Jones completed 24-of-32 passes for 417 yards with four touchdowns in a 41-24 win over Georgia on Saturday. Things did not start out well for Jones and the Crimson Tide offense, as the 6-foot-3, 214-pound wideout threw an interception on the first play of the game. From that point on, things went swimmingly — outside of a couple of missed throws — as he tossed four touchdowns for the second time in the 2020 season. The best throw of the night was a 90-yard connection with Jaylen Waddle, but Jones also found DeVonta Smith for two scores, with Miller Forrestall also finding paydirt. Simply put, Alabama’s passing game is on point, and they have one of the best tailbacks in the country in Najee Harris, too. Long story short: Alabama? Pretty good. Jones should have no issues next Saturday when the Crimson tide take on struggling Tennessee.
Tennessee Vols Game Notes
Tennessee redshirt senior QB Jarrett Guarantano is being challenged by multiple quarterbacks for the Volunteers’ starting job. The much maligned Guarantano (6’4/213) was objectionably terrible against Kentucky last Saturday, 14-of-21 passes for just 88 yards with two interceptions in a 34-7 loss. He threw back-to-back pick-sixes before being pulled in favor of J.T. Shrout, who promptly threw an interception himself on his first pass attempt and was quickly sent back to the bench. Highly touted four-star 2020 recruit Harrison Bailey finished the game off for the Vols. HC Pruitt indicated that “several” quarterbacks were rotated through the first-team in an attempt to stabilize a position that has been a pox on their offense this year.
Alabama vs. Tennessee Betting Prediction
The Crimson Tide are 11-4-1 against the spread in their last 16 games versus the Vols and have covered in eight of their last nine trips to Knoxville. The road team has also cashed in four of the last five meetings between these two teams while the favorite is 7-3 against the number in the last 10 meetings. The Vols, meanwhile, are just 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six games, are 1-3-1 against the number in their last five conference games and have failed to cover in 21 of their last 28 home games when facing an opponent like Alabama that has a winning record on the road.
