According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Alabama receiver Amari Cooper is favored to score the first touchdown in this game, as he has 4/1 odds to do so. Other short odds are Bama’s Derrick Henry and T.J. Yeldon, who each have 6/1 odds, while Ezekiel Elliott of Ohio State has 7/1 odds.
Alabama produced 62 total touchdowns on offense this season and Cooper was surprisingly the leading scorer as a receiver. He had an absolutely dynamite season, catching 115 passes for 1,656 yards and 14 scores. The next best receiver on the team had just 37 catches for 439 yards and four scores. Henry and Yeldon each had 10 touchdown runs while Henry had two touchdown receptions and Yeldon had one.
Ohio State produced 73 offensive touchdowns this season, 34 of which came on the ground. Elliott was the leader there, scoring 12 times on 1,402 rushing yards. J.T. Barrett was next with 11 scores on the ground, but with him out, that could put more focus on Elliott. It is hard to say what to expect from quarterback Cardale Jones, as he has just one start and his instincts haven’t been tested against a defense like Alabama. He is listed with 15/1 odds to score the first TD, but he does have a 6.3 yards per carry average, though he doesn’t have a rushing touchdown this season.
