Appalachian State Mountaineers Game Notes
Appalachian State senior QB Zac Thomas (leg) is considered a game time decision for Saturday’s contest at Coastal Carolina. Thomas (6’1/210) took a hit on the sideline at the end of a scramble against Georgia State last Saturday, and it was immediately obvious that the senior quarterback suffered a potentially serious injury. He was eventually taken off the field via ambulance to be taken to an area hospital for further evaluation. In light of the seemingly dire circumstances surrounding the injury, it’s very encouraging to hear that he is being considered to play this weekend. If he is unable to suit up, Jacob Huesman will handle starting duties in Appalachian State’s pivotal matchup against CCU that will likely decide who the SBC regular season champion will be.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Game Notes
Coastal Carolina redshirt freshman QB Grayson McCall completed 17-of-24 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 23-6 win over South Alabama. McCall (6’3/195) also ran around a bit. On eight carries, he earned 72 yards, topping out with a 35-yard dash. Through the air, McCall was nothing spectacular, but he did well to complete passes to the intermediate area and avoid giving up any costly interceptions. Seeing how well CCU’s defense played, that is all McCall needed to be anyway.
