Cal off to hot start
The hype train for Cal got a little bigger last weekend, as the Golden Bears went on the road and picked up a 28-20 win over Ole Miss. California is 4-0 on the season, 1-0 in the Pac-12, 2-2 against the spread and 3-1 with the under.
The Golden Bears have been great defensively this year, giving up just 17.3 points and 366.5 yards per contest. The Cal offense is putting up 24.5 points and 371.3 yards per game. The defense is being led by Evan Weaver, who already has 62 tackles. Christopher Brown Jr. is leading the offense with 335 rushing yards and two scores while Chase Garbers has 835 passing yards with seven touchdowns.
Arizona State drops P12 opener
Following a big win at Michigan State two weeks ago, Arizona State slipped up last weekend at home in a 34-31 loss to Colorado in its Pac-12 opener. Arizona State is now 3-1 on the year, 0-1 in the Pac-12, 1-3 against the spread and 3-1 with the under.
The Sun Devils are relying a lot on defense this year, giving up just 13.8 points and 346 yards per game this season. Offensively, ASU is putting up 22.5 points and 379.8 yards per contest. Quarterback Jayden Daniels has thrown for 1,073 yards and five touchdowns to lead the offense while Eno Benjamin is the team’s leading rusher with 292 yards and three scores. Brandon Aiyuk has been Daniels’ leading target with 22 catches for 424 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
California
The Golden Bears are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven conference games, but just 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine home games.
Arizona State
The Sun Devils have failed to cover in six straight Friday games, but are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 September games.
Prediction:
Arizona State has covered in three straight meetings with the Golden Bears and they will have a chance to do it again tonight. Both teams have played in close games throughout the season. While Cal is 4-0, three of the four have been decided by a single score. ASU has just the one loss by three points and one other game it won by three. With both teams relying on defense, I think this will be a rough offensive game, which should keep things close. ASU should find a way to give itself a chance to win in the closing minutes and at least be able to cover the spread.
