Arizona State Sun Devils Game Notes
Trenton Bourguet (lower leg) is listed as the starting quarterback without an injury tag on ASU’s depth chart for Saturday’s game against California, Brad Denny of CBS 5 Phoenix reports. Bourguet missed last week’s game versus USC due to a lower leg injury but received first-team reps in practice this week. With Drew Pyne (undisclosed) out, Bourguet is set to be the team’s starting quarterback.
California Golden Bears Game Notes
Ben Finley (undisclosed) did not practice on Tuesday, Rivals.com reports. According to coach Justin Wilcox, Finley is expected to return to practice tomorrow. There is still an open QB competition between Finley and Sam Jackson. If both are healthy there’s a good chance we see both quarterbacks in the game at some point on Saturday against Arizona State. Finley threw three interceptions a week ago against Washington, however.

Take Cal. I know Arizona State surprisingly gave USC all it could handle last Saturday night, but that was a home game. The fact remains that the Sun Devils remain one of the most banged-up teams in the nation and going on the road is a different animal. Cal controls the clock, Arizona State doesn’t. The Sun Devils are also horrible on third down, while the Golden Bears are excellent defensively at getting off the field. After burning bettors last week by giving USC a game, I see ASU burning bettors that decided to back the Sun Devils this time around.
