Auburn Tigers
Auburn redshirt junior QB Jarrett Stidham completed 19-of-38 passes for 214 scoreless yards in Saturday’s 23-9 loss to Mississippi State. Stidham’s mediocrity — that’s being nice — cost Auburn another game. This was his second game without a touchdown and he has yet to pass for over 275 yards this season, and the redshirt junior is now averaging just 196 passing yards and 0.83 touchdowns per game through six games. There’s no way any NFL team is taking Stidham serious as a first-round prospect anymore, but he will try to turn things around next week against Tennessee.
Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee redshirt sophomore QB Jarrett Guarantano completed 13-of-21 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 38-12 loss to Georgia. Guarantano played a good game with all things considered. The redshirt sophomore was playing through a knee injury that forced him out of last week’s game, but he was also playing the nation’s No. 9 scoring defense on the road. Despite all this, the Volunteers were able to hang around in the second half before a couple late Georgia scores. Tennessee (2-3) has a lot to work on during the bye week before returning to game action at Auburn on October 13th, but today’s game went better than expected.
Betting Trends
Tennessee
The Volunteers are 1-4 against the spread in their last five conference games and are 2-6 against the number in their last eight games overall.
Auburn
The Tigers are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games overall and 2-5 against the number in their last seven home games.
Prediction
Tennessee is fresh off its bye and played Georgia much closer than the 38-12 final score would indicate. Meanwhile, Auburn has not been impressive since its win over Washington in the opening week. The Tigers have superior talent to the Vols, who are basically in a rebuild under head coach Jeremy Pruitt. Still, this is too many points to lay with a struggling Auburn team.
