Big Ten Football Week 9 Prediction: Nebraska vs. Wisconsin 10/29/16

Nebraska vs. Wisconsin Prediction

Will No. 11 Wisconsin and No. 7 Nebraska get into another physical, low-scoring Big Ten contest when the two meet tonight at 7PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Wisconsin is the favorite at home in this game, as the Badgers are getting odds of -9 points against Nebraska. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 43 points. Wisconsin has won and covered the spread in four of its five meetings with Nebraska since the Huskers joined the Big Ten, but the two have hit the over in four of their five meetings.

Bet on Nebraska vs. Wisconsin

Wisconsin snapped a two-game losing streak last week when it went to Iowa and won 17-9 to move to 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in the Big Ten. The Badgers are now 5-2 with the under this season thanks to a very physical defense. Wisconsin is giving up just 14.3 points and 300.6 yards per game on the season. They are holding teams to just 102.9 rushing yards per game right now. On offense, Wisconsin is somewhat average, as the Badgers are posting just 24.3 points and 382 yards per game. Corey Clement is leading the offense with 617 rushing yards and six touchdowns. The Badgers have been using two quarterbacks as of late but Alex Hornibrook and Bart Houston have combined for just 1,463 passing yards and 8 touchdowns with 8 interceptions.

Nebraska remained undefeated last week thanks to a 27-14 win over Purdue at home. The Huskers are now 7-0 on the season, 4-0 in the Big Ten and 6-1 with the under. Nebraska has hit the under in five straight games now. The Cornhuskers have a pretty solid defense they bring to the field as well, allowing just 17.7 points and 342.9 yards per contest this season. When it comes to offense, the Huskers are putting up 34.1 points and 447.4 yards per game, including 211.4 rushing yards per game. Terell Newby is the leading rusher with 511 yards and four scores while Tommy Armstrong Jr. has added 380 yards on the ground and 1,611 passing yards. Devine Ozigbo has run for 320 yards and four scores this year, but is questionable to play in this game due to an ankle injury. One of the team’s top receivers, Jordan Westerkamp is battling a back injury, but is expected to return to action today, which could improve the passing game.

The total is low for this game for good reason, but I think the final point total will be even lower. Nebraska struggled last week at home against Purdue, so going to Wisconsin and expecting much offensive success isn’t likely. Wisconsin hasn’t been an offense that you can expect much from either, and that is likely to continue against a Nebraska defense that is pretty sound.
