Birmingham Bowl Texas Tech vs. South Florida Predictions 12/23/17

Texas Tech vs. South Florida Bowl Pick

Is the South Florida Bulls a good bet to knock off the Texas Tech Red Raiders when the two teams play in the Birmingham Bowl at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday?

ODDSMAKERS LIKE: South Florida. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Bulls are 3-point favorites to beat the Red Raiders, who opened as a 3-point underdog. The total, meanwhile, hit the board at 66.5 and that’s where the number currently sits.

THE PUBLIC LIKES: South Florida. As of Saturday morning, 72% of betting tickets are on the Bulls while 63% of the money is also on USF to cover the spread.

INJURY REPORT: Justin Stockton (concussion) is probable for Texas Tech today, while Derrick Willies (disciplinary) is questionable and D.J. Polite-Bray (disciplinary) is out for the year. On the other side, Deangelo Antoine (ankle) is out for South Florida.

WHO WE LIKE: South Florida. I’m surprised the point spread for this game is set so low. Both teams can score, but one team plays defense, one team doesn’t. The Bulls rank 28th in yards allowed, 57th in passing yards allowed, 22nd in rushing yards allowed, and 36th in points allowed (22.5). The Red Raiders, meanwhile, are allowing 31.8 points per game, 434 yards per game, and rank 124th in the nation in passing yards allowed. Yikes.

Texas Tech is 2-5 against the spread in its last seven games overall, is 2-7 against the number in its last nine bowl games and is 1-4 at the betting window in its last five games versus a team with a winning record. Meanwhile, the Bulls are 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six games coming off a loss and are 7-1 at the betting window in their last eight games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game.
