Boise State Broncos Game Notes
Boise State sophomore QB Hank Bachmeier completed 20-of-28 passing attempts for 268 yards with three touchdowns and added a rushing score in a 42-13 blowout win over Utah State on Saturday. The Broncos races out to a 28-0 lead at halftime, and while Utah State was able to score a couple of touchdowns in the second half to get within two scores, Boise State scored the next two touchdowns to make this a boat race. Bachmeier — who had to beat out USC transfer Jack Sears for the starting gig — was outstanding, with two passing touchdowns to Khalil Shakir, another to George Holani and a rushing touchdown to complete an excellent opener. Sears also played in this game, but the 6-foot-1, 202-pound signal-caller isn’t giving up the starting gig anytime soon. Bachmeier and the Broncos take on Air Force next Saturday in what should be a much closer game.
Air Force Falcons Game Notes
Air Force redshirt sophomore QB Haaziq Daniels completed 9-of-17 passes for 92 yards with a touchdown and ran for 25 yards in a 17-6 loss to San Jose State. After an impressive showing against Navy in their opener, the Air Force triple-option wasn’t nearly as effective; rushing for just 206 yards; well below the norm for an offense that is running the ball on virtually every play. Daniels (6’1/200) was able to throw for a score in this contest, but was held in check on the ground, as were his teammates. Air Force is now 1-1 — 0-1 in conference — and will need to play much better next Saturday against Boise State to stand any chance.
