Boston College Eagles Game Notes

Eagles quarterback Thomas Castellanos, defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku, and offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo will all sit out Saturday’s game against Nebraska. Castellanos entered the transfer portal, while Ezeiruaku and Trapilo are simply opting out of playing the game.

The biggest loss of that trio is Donovan Ezeiruaku. The senior from Williamstown, NJ had a phenomenal season, recording 80 total tackles, 16.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles on the campaign. Ezeiruaku won the ACC Defensive Player of the Year Award and was a consensus All-American in 2024. BC defensive ends Quintayvious Hutchins and Neto Okpala will likely see more snaps in place of Donovan Ezeiruaku this weekend.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Game Notes

The Cornhuskers will be missing several players for this game. Nebraska starting running back Dante Dowdell, defensive lineman Jimari Butler, linebacker Princewill Umanmielen, cornerback Tommi Hill, offensive lineman Micah Mazzcua, and wide receiver Isaiah Neyor will all sit out Saturday’s game due to various injuries or opt-outs this weekend.

Dante Dowdell led the team in rushing rushing attempts (143), rushing yards (614), and rushing touchdowns (12) this season. Isaiah Neyor was fourth on the team in receptions (34), second in receiving yards (455), and first in receiving touchdowns (5) this year.

Boston College is 5-2 ATS as an underdog this season.

The Eagles are 4-2 ATS after a win this season.

Nebraska is 7-10-1 ATS as a favorite since the start of the 2022 season.

Nebraska is 4-5 ATS in non-conference games since the beginning of the 2022 season.

Boston College vs. Nebraska Betting Prediction

Nebraska had an odd season. The Cornhuskers started the year by winning 5 of their first 6 games outright. They then proceeded to lose 5 of their last 6 contests to finish the year 6-6. A mass exodus of players leaving in the transfer portal could hamstring the Huskers in this contest. Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola was good this season (2,595 passing yards, 12-10 TD-INT, 62.7 QBR) but he and the offense may have trouble moving the ball with multiple skill players sitting out on Saturday.

Boston College made a quarterback switch late in the year from Thomas Castellanos to Grayson James. It worked. The Eagles won 3 of their last 4 games outright to finish the season 7-5. James posted a QBR of 78.3 and a TD-INT of 6-2 in 5 games of action this season. He should be ready to go with nearly a full month of preparation under his belt heading into this game. I’m taking Boston College and the points in the Bronx on Saturday afternoon.
