Can Appalachian State and Lafayette hit a low total? Here’s our pick?

App State vs. Lafayette Pick

Appalachian State and Louisiana Lafayette open up the week of college football action on Wednesday at 8PM ET. Will the game be a defensive struggle?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Appalachian State is favored on the road, as the Mountaineers are getting odds of -10 points against Lafayette. The over/under totals for the game is listed at 49.5 points. These two have met the last two seasons with App State winning both games and the two hitting the under in both meetings.

Bet on Appalachian State vs. Lafayette

Appalachian State is coming off a 17-3 win over Georgia State on Oct. 1 to improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers have hit the under in three of five games. App State has been pretty even when it comes to offensive and defensive performance. The defense is giving up 22.6 points and 384.2 yards per game while posting 23.2 points and 379.2 yards per game on offense. The offense is rushing the ball quite well, averaging 213 yards per game. Jalin Moore has run for 554 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense while Marcus Cox has added 278 yards and three touchdowns. However, Cox missed last game with a leg injury and is listed as questionable for this game. Taylor Lamb, the team’s QB has thrown for 827 yards and six touchdowns and four interceptions.

Lafayette is coming off a 37-31 OT loss to New Mexico State to fall to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Sun Belt. The Cajuns have had their las two losses come in OT and they are 2-2-1 with the over/under total. Lafayette has struggled on defense, allowing 33.6 points and 419.2 yards per game, including nearly 300 passing yards per game. Offensively, Lafayette is putting up 27.6 points and 395.6 yards per contest. Like App State, the Cajuns have a solid rushing attack, averaging just under 180 yards per game. Elijah McGuire is leading the offense with 517 rushing yards and three touchdowns, though he is dealing with a foot injury that has him less than 100 percent. Anthony Jennings has thrown for 995 yards and eight touchdowns, but also has six interceptions.

The total in this game is awfully low. While App State has proven to be a pretty good defense, Lafayette really isn’t. The App State ground game should be able to put up its fair share of points on the Cajuns and I expect that Lafayette should have some success at home as well. With 12 days off for both teams, the offensive game planning should be good enough to feature some offense.
