Eagles aim to keep Red Wolves winless
Ten days ago, Georgia Southern suffered a dispiriting defeat at the hands of Western Michigan. Will Tyson Summers’ team be able to rebound tomorrow night?
The 3-1 Eagles travel to Jonesboro for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff vs. Arkansas State. According to handicappers at online sports book BetDSI, the Sun Belt stalwarts enter Centennial Bank Stadium as 7.5-point favorites. The over/under is 55.
While that 49-31 loss to the Broncos undoubtedly stings, Georgia Southern’s still doing its usual thing in conference play. Look for Summers to make Matt Breida a focal part of the attack here. The senior tailback has started 2016 on a fairly quiet note, averaging only 4.0 yards per carry through 16 quarters of action. Yet he should find plenty of room to roam against the Red Wolves’ sieve-like defense.
The Eagles’ D could stand to improve, too. Lorenzo Costantini’s unit surrendered 407 total yards in Week 4. Arkansas State signal-caller Justice Hansen also threw for three touchdowns in his squad’s recent setback to Central Arkansas.

These two programs are meeting for the first time since 1986. It’s hard to picture the usually respectable Red Wolves falling to 0-5, but they simply cannot string together stops right now. Regardless of the setting, lean toward Georgia Southern’s ground-heavy assault.
