Can Artavis Scott lead Clemson to a big passing day against Alabama?

Scott a secret weapon for Clemson?

Artavis Scott is Clemson’s leading receiver. Will he be called upon to step up in tonight’s College Football Playoff Championship against Alabama?

View College Football Odds

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Alabama is favored in this championship game, as the Crimson Tide are getting odds of -6.5 points against Clemson. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 50.5 points. These two meet tonight at 8:30PM ET on ESPN from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

Scott isn’t the highest-profile offensive player for Clemson (14-0, 7-7 ATS) and the Tigers’ explosive offense, but he has plenty of play-making ability and he also is the main receiving target of Deshaun Watson. Scott caught 89 passes this season for 868 yards with five touchdowns. Tonight, Scott puts himself up against Alabama (13-1, 8-6 ATS) and the Tide’s physical defense. Alabama has been dominant against the run, but ranks just 18th against the pass, allowing 185.9 yards per game. If Clemson is going to win tonight, it may have to look to air it out more than it is accustomed to.

Oddsmakers have listed somewhat tame odds for Scott in this game, as his over/under for receptions is 5.5 and his over/under for receiving yards is set at 61.5. Scott’s odds to score a touchdown are listed at +150. Scott hasn’t had a lot of breakout games, but he has been largely consistent all season. He had 5 catches for 63 yards in the semifinal win over Oklahoma and had 62 yards or more in seven games. One game to note for Scott is when he caught 10 passes for 162 yards with a touchdown against Boston College. The Eagles have a very physical defense like Bama and rank second in run defense behind the Tide. Clemson could be looking for a similar game plan in tonight’s contest as to what it used against BC. If so, Scott should be a big part of the offense.
