Can Southern slow down BG?
The Bowling Green aerial attack looks to claim another victim today when the Falcons take on Georgia Southern in the GoDaddy Bowl.
According to oddsmakers at MyBookie.ag, Bowling Green is favored at home in this game, as the Falcons are getting odds of -7 points against Georgia Southern. Bowling Green (10-3, 10-3 ATS) has the fifth-ranked offense in the nation in regards to scoring (43.4 ppg) and fourth in total offense (561 ypg). The big reason behind that is quarterback Matt Johnson, who is second in the country in passing with 4,700 yards. He trails only WKU’s Brandon Doughty, who already played in his bowl game. Johnson also has 43 touchdown passes with eight interceptions this season.
Georgia Southern will certainly have its hands full with Johnson and the BG offense. Southern ranks 40th in pass defense, allowing 203.9 yards per game through the air. However, the Eagles are coming off a 34-7 loss to Georgia State where it allowed 346 yards to another solid QB in Nick Arbuckle. Johnson has been in a bit of a 300-yard funk coming into today. After throwing for at least 324 yards in his first nine games, he hasn’t hit the 300 total since. His peak in the last four games was 274 yards against Toledo.
