Memphis vs. Houston Total Pick
Can No. 25 Memphis go on the road and put up a big total on Houston when the two AAC teams meet up this Thursday at 8PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Houston is favored at home in this game, as the Cougars are getting odds of -3 points against Memphis. The over/under total is listed at 61.5 points. Houston has won six of the last seven in this series and these two have split the over/under in their last six. The public is currently putting 57 percent of the wagers on Memphis on the road. Thursday’s game takes place from TDECU Stadium in Houston, Texas and will air live on ESPN.
Memphis is coming off a 30-27 win at home over Navy to get back into the top-25 rankings. The Tigers are now 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in the AAC. They are also 4-2 with the over, but 2-1 with the under in conference play. Memphis is averaging 40.3 points and 490.7 yards per game this season. Riley Ferguson has thrown for 1,814 yards and 19 touchdowns to lead the offense. He is dealing with a knee injury, but is expected to play. Anthony Miller is the leading receiver with 45 catches for 606 yards and nine touchdowns while Darrell Henderson has rushed for 542 yards and three touchdowns. The Memphis defense is allowing 33.8 points and 477.5 yards per game this season, including over 200 rushing yards per contest.
Houston is coming off a 45-17 loss at Tulsa to fall to 4-2 on the season. The Cougars are also 2-1 in conference play while going 6-0 with the under this year. Houston is holding opponents to just 21 points per game despite allowing 403 yards per contest. Offensively, Houston is putting up 25.5 points and 424.8 yards per game. Kyle Postma has emerged as the QB of the team lately. He has 805 passing yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions. Duke Catalon is the leading rusher with 431 yards and four touchdowns while Steven Dunbar has 40 receptions for 462 yards.
Both teams have offenses capable of doing some big things, but the Houston defense has kept the totals low and I think that continues at home. These two have hit the under in their last four meetings in Houston. The Cougars have also hit the under in six straight home games and in six of their last seven conference games. I think these two have a good game, but we see some defensive stops along the way.
