CFB Pick: Will Virginia hit another under with Virginia Tech on Saturday?

Virginia vs. Virginia Tech Pick

Will Virginia Tech’s defense be too much for Virginia to score any points on as the two meet Saturday at Noon ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Virginia Tech is favored at home, as the Hokies are getting odds of -18.5 points against the Cavaliers. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 54.5 points. Virginia Tech has won 10 straight over Virginia and the two have hit the under in five of their last six meetings.

Bet on Virginia vs. Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech is coming off a 34-31 win at Notre Dame to move to 8-3 on the season. The Hokies are also 5-2 in the ACC and 6-5 with the over, hitting it in three of the last five. Tech still has a pretty good defense, allowing just 22.1 points and 339.9 yards per game this season. They are especially tough against the pass, allowing just 190.7 yards per game. Offensively, Tech is averaging 33.3 points and 442 yards per game. Jerod Evans has thrown for 2,792 yards and 24 touchdowns to lead the offense while also rushing for 675 yards and seven touchdowns. Travon McMillian has added 568 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Isaiah Ford has caught 65 passes for 881 yards and seven touchdowns to lead the receiving group.

Virginia is in a free fall right now, losing six straight to drop to 2-9 on the season and 1-6 in the ACC. The Cavaliers are 7-3-1 with the under this year as well, as the offense has been struggling. They are averaging just 23.6 points and 362.5 yards per game on offense. They are led by their pass game as Kurt Benkert has thrown for 2,430 yards and 20 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. Benkert does a nice job of spreading the ball around, as four different receivers have 46 receptions or more. Taquan Mizzell is the leading rusher with 827 yards and five touchdowns. The Cavs are allowing 32.1 points and 434.5 yards per game this season, including 181 rushing yards per contest.

Though Virginia Tech has an offense that can produce some points, the Hokies aren’t a team to typically run up the score. The Hokies will be able to easily stop the Virginia offense, so airing it out on offense won’t be necessary. Look for the Hokies to dominate on defense and establish a comfortable lead early that causes the scoring to slow down significantly in the second half and allow the under to hit.
