CFB Week 1 Predictions: Arizona Wildcats vs. BYU Cougars 9/3/16

Arizona vs. BYU Prediction

Will the Arizona Wildcats and BYU Cougars light up the scoreboard on Saturday night when the two teams clash at 10:30PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the over/under for Saturday night’s game at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona is set at 61 points. The total has moved off the original number posted by oddsmakers, dropping from 62 down to 61. As for the side, this game opened as a pick’em before BYU was bet up to -1.5.

Bet College Football’s Week 1 Games

In their 13 lined games in 2015, the Wildcats were just 6-7 against the spread, failing to cover by a -3.2 points-per-game margin. As an underdog, which is what Arizona will be on Saturday night, the Wildcats were 2-4 at the betting window and lost by an average margin of 22.2 points per game in those situations. As a road dog, the Wildcats were just 1-3 ATS.

How did BYU do for bettors in 2015? Pretty well, covering in eight of its 13 games and winning by a margin of 10.8 points per contest. As a favorite, the Cougars covered in five of their eight opportunities, winning by an average margin of 20.5 points in those eight contests.

OUR EARLY PICK: Arizona has plenty of big-play threats on offense thanks to the return of quarterback Anu Solomon (who could split time with Brandon Dawkins running Rich Rodriguez’s system), running back Nick Wilson, and receivers Trey Griffey (Ken Griffey Jr.’s son) and Nate Phillips. Marcel Yates’ aggressive style on defense could also lead to the Wildcats giving up big plays again on that side of the ball, which will prove problematic against a BYU tam that has two proven quarterbacks and an exciting batch of skill-position support.
