ECU unable to get on track
ECU is coming off a 45-20 loss at home to South Florida last weekend. The Pirates have lost three straight games coming into this week and sit at 3-5 on the season, 0-4 in the AAC, 4-4 against the spread and 6-2 with the under.
The Pirates haven’t been anything special on offense or defense. ECU is putting up 21.5 points and 374.5 yards per game on offense while the defense is allowing 28.2 points and 417.2 yards per game. Holton Ahlers is leading the offense with 1,672 yards and seven touchdowns passing, but also has seven interceptions. He has rushed for 256 yards and four scores as well. Demetrius Mauney has rushed for 368 yards and a score, while CJ Johnson has 32 receptions for 399 yards and two touchdowns.
Bearcats grind out another win
Cincinnati is coming off a 24-13 win over Tulsa two weeks ago for a fifth straight victory. The Bearcats are now 6-1 on the season, 3-0 in the AAC, 5-2 against the spread and 5-2 with the under.
The Bearcats have a really solid defense this season, allowing just 20.4 points and 344.7 yards per game. Offensively, Cincinnati is averaging 28.6 points and 383.9 yards per contest. Desmond Ridder has thrown for 1,399 yards and 14 touchdowns to lead the offense. He also has 202 rushing yards with a score. Michael Warren II is the team’s leading rusher with 498 yards and four touchdowns while Alec Pierce has 20 receptions for 410 yards and two touchdowns.
College Football Betting Trends
East Carolina
ECU is only 6-13-1 against the spread in its last 20 home games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games on grass.
Cincinnati
The Bearcats are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight against losing teams, but just 2-7 ATS in their last nine games on grass.
Prediction:
Cincinnati has won and covered the spread in four of the last five meetings against ECU, but only one has been by more than 12 points. While the Bearcats have been dominant on defense, they aren’t an overpowering offense in any sense. They have just one win this year by more than 24 points and that includes a home game with Miami (Ohio). ECU isn’t a good team, and I expect the Cincy defense to dominate this game, but I don’t know that I can trust the Bearcats to cover a spread that is almost what they average scoring per game. That’s just not their style.
