Cincinnati had a very strong end to the season, as it won seven straight to close the year, moving the Bearcats record to 9-3 on the year and 7-1 in the AAC. Cincinnati shared the conference title with Memphis and UCF. The Bearcats were 7-4-1 against the spread for the season and finished 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven. They hit the under in five of their last seven games as well.

Virginia Tech ended its season by winning two of its last three games to get to 6-6 on the year. The Hokies were just 3-5 in the ACC, but four of their five conference losses were by five points or less. Tech was 5-7 against the spread this season, but went just 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games. The Hokies have also trended toward the under, hitting it in seven of their last 10.

The over/under total for the game is listed at 51 points. Virginia Tech has won five of its last seven meetings with Cincinnati, but the Bearcats have covered in three of their last four meetings.

This game will be about strength vs. strength and weakness vs. weakness. The Cincinnati offense averages 458.6 yards per game this season, including 301 passing yards per game. The Tech defense, however, is very strong, holding opponents to just 331.7 yards per game overall and 186.8 passing yards per contest. The challenge for Tech will be to slow down Cincinnati quarterback Gunner Kiel, who has thrown for 3,010 yards and 30 touchdowns this season.
