Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Game Notes
Grayson McCall completed 22 of 39 passes for 299 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions during Saturday’s 38-28 defeat to Georgia Southern. He also had 10 rushes for 40 yards with one touchdown. Though McCall found the end zone twice and tallied 339 total yards, he ended up turning the ball over four times. The veteran QB threw a pick-six late in the third quarter, then another in the fourth. After throwing eight interceptions combined across his first three collegiate seasons, McCall has thrown six through five games in 2023.
Appalachian State Mountaineers Notes
Ryan Burger (finger) was spotted during practice Sunday and should be questionable to face Coastal Carolina on Tuesday, 247Sports reports. Burger hasn’t played since Week 1, and while Joey Aguilar has been the starter with the former out, Burger should be under center Tuesday if he’s able to go through practice Monday with no issues. Burger completed seven of his 11 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown before getting injured in his lone outing of the season.

Take Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers have not played like the team that was an underrated storyline the last few seasons. They’ve battled turnover issues, problems getting off the field defensively on third down and have left points on the table offensively. Tonight, however, Coastal Carolina should be able to run the ball all over an Appalachian State defense that has had issues slowing down opponents’ ground game. With that, I don’t see how the Mountaineers will be able to take control of this game until it’s too late. At the very least, I see Coastal covering, if not winning outright.
