Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Game Notes
Coastal Carolina redshirt freshman QB Grayson McCall completed 10-of-15 passes for 85 yards while also carrying 12 times for 68 rushing yards in a 22-17 victory over BYU this Saturday. McCall (6’3/195) played the role of game manager as he only uncorked 15 throws while the offense attempted 54 carries for 281 yards and a 5.2 YPC. The redshirt freshman signal caller has had an incredible first season at the helm of the Chanticleers, and proved to have wisdom well beyond his years as he dutifully executed the game plan behind a devastating offensive line that controlled BYU’s defensive front all game. He did mishandle a RPO handoff that snuffed out a scoring drive, but other than that miscue McCall did what was asked of him. CCU travels to play Troy next weekend in the team’s last regular season game before their SBC championship matchup against Louisiana on December 19.
Troy Trojans Game Notes
Troy sophomore QB Gunnar Watson completed 13-of-20 passes for 125 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Saturday’s 47-10 loss to Appalachian State. For a true sophomore QB, Watson (6’3/205) ain’t half bad. He can generally work the short to intermediate game relatively well for someone his age and has some accuracy that looks promising. When pitted against Appalachian State in a shootout, though, Watson does not yet have the firepower to fight back. Watson struggled a bit to open up the offense down the field, which was especially painful seeing as the run game did not do much to help control the ball so Troy could stall out drives and hog time of possession. Troy move to 4-5 with South Alabama on schedule for next week.
