According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Tar Heels are now 13-point home favorites after opening as 11.5-point favorites versus the Hurricanes. As for the total, it opened at 64 before jumping to 65.5.
The Records
Miami enters play with a 6-3 record and is 5-4 against the spread this season, while North Carolina is 8-1 and 6-3 at the betting window. The Tar Heels’ lone loss came all the way back in Week 1 versus South Carolina.
The Pick
This spread seems a tad high, mostly based on North Carolina’s destruction of Duke last Saturday in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels have flown under the radar since their loss to the Gamecocks but their blowout win against the Blue Devils last Saturday put them back into the forefront of college football bettors. That said, the Hurricanes are 2-0 under interim head coach Larry Scott (albeit thanks to a controversial win against Duke three weeks ago), and have the athletes to match up with an explosive Tar Heels team. UNC has one of the nation’s top pass defenses but Brad Kaaya is second in the ACC with 2,132 passing yards. The ‘Canes should keep this a lot closer than people expect.
