The Odds

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Cougars are 3.5-point underdogs versus the Midshipmen while the total currently sits at 60 points.

The Records

Houston had its perfect season ruined last weekend by Connecticut and is now 10-1 on the season and 6-4-1 against the spread. The Cougars have failed to cover the spread in three straight games, all of which they were favored in. As for the Midshipmen, they’re 9-1 on the season and 8-2 against the spread. They’ve covered in four straight games and have won five in a row straight up.

The Pick

Despite losing last week to Connecticut, there’s still plenty on the line for Houston today. The winner of this matchup will host the American Athletic Conference championship as the West Division champ and also a New Year’s Six bowl. The Cougars enter this game banged up, with quarterback Greg Ward Jr. battling an ankle injury and running back Kenneth Farrow day-to-day with his own ankle problem. But this game will be won and lost by Houston’s ability to slow down Navy’s triple-option. Not many teams have done it this season, but the Cougars are allowing just 114.8 rushing yards per game this season, which ranks 11th in the nation. They’re also 23rd in the country in points allowed (20.2) and while they don’t have a great pass defense, that won’t matter today against a Midshipmen program that keeps the ball on the ground. This game will be close throughout, so take the points.
