Petrino gets new contract
Louisville is happy with the direction that Bobby Petrino is taking the football program and the Cardinals have given the head coach a new deal.
Louisville announced on Thursday that they have reached an agreement on a new 7-year deal with Petrino. ESPN is reporting that the contract is worth $30.625 million with an average of $4.375 million per season starting in July of 2017.
“You (now) can talk to the parents and the player and say, ‘I’ll be your coach throughout your entire career,” Petrino said Thursday at a news conference. “That means a lot. I feel good about the way we’re building our program, but we know it’s very competitive out there.”

Petrino has now spent six seasons with Louisville. He was the head coach from 2003-06 before leaving for the NFL. He returned in 2014 and led Louisville to a 9-4 record before going 8-5 this past season. The Cardinals have finished third in the ACC Atlantic Division the last two seasons. The 2016 squad should be led by QB Lamar Jackson, who threw for 1,840 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 960 yards and 11 scores last season.
