Oklahoma Season Odds
NORMAN, OK (TheSpread) – The Oklahoma Sooners always have high hopes heading into the college football season, but will Oklahoma be able to get back to contending for a national title in 2015?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Oklahoma is currently listed with 28/1 odds to win the College Football Playoffs this upcoming season. The Sooners are getting odds of +550 to win the Big 12 conference this year, while their over/under total for wins has been set at 8.5
Bob Stoops is entering his 17th season as head coach of Oklahoma. The team is coming off an 8-5 record in 2014, which matches Stoops’ second-worst record with the team. They were just 5-4 in the Big 12, which was his worst outing as head coach. Stoops is 168-44 in his Oklahoma career and 104-28 in Big 12 play.
Oklahoma had a decent offense last year, as it averaged 36.4 points and 464.7 yards per game. The defense was average, at best, giving up 25.9 points per contest. The key to the offensive success was the run game, which ranked 11th nationally with 261.2 yards per game. The good news for Oklahoma is that Samaje Perine is back to handle the carries for the team after he rushed for 1,713 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2014. While the team also returns Trevor Knight at QB, who threw for 2,300 yards last year, he is battling Texas Tech transfer Baker Mayfield for the starting job. Mayfield threw for 2,315 yards and 12 TDs as a freshman at Texas Tech before transferring to Oklahoma and sitting out the 2014 season.
Oklahoma has a respectable non-conference schedule as it hosts Akron and Tulsa but hits the road to face Tennessee in the second week. Conference home games include West Virginia, Texas Tech, Iowa State and TCU. Road trips will be at Kansas State, Kansas, Baylor and Oklahoma State. The schedule also includes the annual neutral-site game with Texas. The good thing for Oklahoma is that it hosts TCU, which will likely be the toughest matchup, but winning at Kansas State, Baylor and Oklahoma State could be a tough gauntlet.
