College Football Odds: Texas Tech faces challenge in Texas run game

Texas to pound the rock vs. Tech?

Texas Tech can put up a lot of yards, but will its run defense hamper its chances against Texas tonight?

View College Football Odds

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Texas Tech is a slight favorite on the road, as the Red Raiders are getting odds of -1 points against the Longhorns. The over/under total has been set at 71.5 points. These two meet tonight at 7:30PM ET on FS1.

Texas Tech is 6-5 on the season, 3-5 in the Big 12 and 6-4-1 against the spread in 2015. The Red Raiders have one of the best offenses in the nation, averaging 46.5 points and 588.1 yards per game, but the concern comes on the defensive side of the ball, where the Red Raiders give up 546.8 total yards and 259.5 rushing yards per game. That could play right into Texas’ hands.

The Longhorns are just 4-6 on the year, 3-4 in the Big 12 and 4-6 against the spread. However, one thing Texas does quite well is run the ball. The Longhorns are 24th nationally in rushing, averaging 213.9 yards per game. Texas has a three-headed monster running the ball in D’Onta Foreman, Jerrod Heard and Johnathan Gray. If those three are able to effectively run the ball, it allows Texas to control the clock and keep the Texas Tech offense off the field, which gives the Longhorns their best chance to win. Don’t look for the Red Raiders’ rushing defense to improve a great deal this week on the road.
