LOS ANGELES (TheSpread) – Steve Sarkisian had a strong showing in his first season as head coach of USC. Will he be able to lead the Trojans to a championship in his second year?

According to oddsmakers at GTBets, USC is currently listed with 16/1 odds to win the College Football Playoffs this upcoming season. The Trojans are also listed with odds of +225 to win the Pac-12 Championship and USC has an over/under of 9 wins for the 2015 season.

After spending five seasons as head coach of Washington, going just 35-29 in those five years, Sarkisian made the jump to USC in 2014 and led the Trojans to a 9-4 overall record with a 6-3 mark in the Pac-12. Three of its four losses came by six points or less.

Last season the Trojans were a pretty steady offense, averaging 35.8 points and 458.5 yards per game, while the defense held opponents to just 25.2 points per contest. The team returns quarterback Cody Kessler, who threw for 3,826 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2014 with only five interceptions. Kessler is definitely in the Heisman mix coming into the year, but the Trojans will need some new skill-position players to step up as it loses Buck Allen, who rushed for 1,459 yards in 2014, and Nelson Agholor, who caught 104 passes for 1,313 yards with 12 touchdowns.

USC has a featured non-conference game when it takes on Notre Dame on Oct. 17, which will be in South Bend. The Trojans will also host Arkansas State and Idaho in other non-conference contests. Pac-12 home games feature Stanford, Washington, Utah, Arizona and UCLA. Road trips will be made to Arizona State, Cal, Colorado and Oregon. USC may be the Pac-12 favorite right now, but the Trojans haven’t proven the ability to slip up during the season. This schedule is definitely not easy.
