College Football Picks for 10/07
Clemson (-16.5, O/U 47.5) at Wake Forest: It’s funny how big wins can change a season. After the upset over Florida State, Clemson has turned into a juggernaut on both sides of the ball, outscoring opponents 103-7 in the last two games. The Tigers clean up against subpar teams, as they have put up 50 or more three times already this year. James Davis is too much for defenses to handle. Wake Forest is at the bottom of the ACC, while Clemson has risen to the upper echelon, passing Miami, Va. Tech, and possibly Florida State along the way. Clemson has covered seven of its last 10 games, and after Saturday, make it eight-of-11.
PICK: Clemson
LSU (-2, O/U 40.5) at Florida: The Tigers will not let this season go to waste. While this SEC clash may be in The Swamp, LSU is too good to drop a second game this early in the season. After the line opened at the Gators -2, it has already moved four points. The road team has covered the last five meetings between these two schools, and that trend should continue.
PICK: LSU
Oklahoma vs. Texas (-4, O/U 49.5): This game is played in Dallas as usual. Ever since the Sooners were robbed by the referees in the Oregon game, their attitude has changed. With a week to rest after the 59-0 trouncing over the sacrificial lamb that was Middle Tennessee State, the Sooners are ready to prove that last year’s Texas win was a fluke. Vince Young is no longer taking snaps, and Mack Brown will remember exactly why he always had trouble with the Sooners. Oklahoma will win outright.
PICK: Oklahoma
Oregon at Cal (-5, O/U 59.5): Stick with the mantra of "dance with the girl that ya’ came with." Cal has been making money for bettors all season since its opening day loss to the Vols. However, the pleasure has been that none of the Golden Bears’ wins were sweat outs. Cal has run up big leads in the first half and then coasted the rest of the game, making an easy Saturday afternoon for anybody who played the Bears. Oregon is talented but will not be able to keep up with the Bears’ high-powered offense.
PICK: Cal
Nevada at Hawaii (-11.5, O/U 61.5): Perhaps it’s similar to the television show "Lost," when the Rainbow Warriors are on the island, special things happen. Such as points…in large increments. Hawaii has covered its last five games overall, and six of its last eight at home. In order to beat Hawaii, Nevada is going to have to put up some serious points, something it hasn’t done on the road.
