As a road favorite, can Appalachian State find a way to cover a double-digit spread against Louisiana Lafayette tonight at 8PM ET?

The over/under totals for the game is listed at 48.5 points. These two have met the last two seasons with App State winning both games and each one covering once in the two meetings.

Appalachian State is coming off a 17-3 win over Georgia State on Oct. 1 to improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Sun Belt. The Mountaineers are also 3-2 against the spread. App State has a defense that is giving up 22.6 points and 384.2 yards per game while the offense is posting 23.2 points and 379.2 yards per game. Lead the offense is back Jalin Moore, who has run for 554 yards and three touchdowns while Marcus Cox has added 278 yards and three touchdowns. As a team, the Mountaineers are averaging over 210 yards on the ground. Taylor Lamb, the team’s QB has thrown for 827 yards and six touchdowns and four interceptions.
Lafayette is coming off a 37-31 OT loss to New Mexico State to fall to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Sun Belt. The Cajuns have had their las two losses come in OT and they are 3-2 against the spread. Lafayette has struggled on defense, allowing 33.6 points and 419.2 yards per game, including nearly 300 passing yards per game. Offensively, Lafayette is putting up 27.6 points and 395.6 yards per contest. Like App State, the Cajuns have a solid rushing attack, averaging just under 180 yards per game. Elijah McGuire is leading the offense with 517 rushing yards and three touchdowns, though he is battling a foot injury that has him listed on the injury report. Anthony Jennings has thrown for 995 yards and eight touchdowns, but also has six interceptions.

Despite some lingering injuries to key backs, these teams should be pretty rested, as each has had 11 days since their last game. Both teams are going to look to impose their will on the ground, but Appalachian State is the more reliable of the two in that department. The Mountaineers also have a passing attack that they can use if needed, which should come in handy to try and cover against Lafayette.
