College Football Predictions: Bowling Green vs. Northern Illinois 11/1/16

Bowling Green vs. NIU Prediction

Which struggling MAC team will pick up a positive tonight when Northern Illinois plays host to Bowling Green in a rematch of the last three MAC Championship Games?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Northern Illinois is the clear favorite in this game, as the Huskies are getting odds of -17 points against the Falcons. The over/under total for the game has been set at 72 points. NIU has won four of the last six meetings, but the two are 3-3 against the spread in their last six encounters.

These two team have won the last five MAC title, but neither is in the running this year. The Huskies moved to 2-6 on the season and 2-2 in the MAC last week with a 44-7 win over Buffalo. NIU is just 3-5 against the spread on the year, as their defense has been heavily disappointing. NIU is giving up 33.5 points and 477.3 yards per game. They struggle against both the run and the pass. Despite that, they still have a dangerous offense that is putting up 29.4 points and 460.9 yards per game. Anthony Maddie has thrown for 1,028 yards and eight touchdowns to lead this offense while also rushing for 465 yards and six scores. Joel Bouagnon is the leading rusher with 510 yards while receiver Kenny Golladay has caught 56 passes for 821 yards and seven touchdowns.

Bet on Bowling Green vs. Northern Illinois

Bowling Green has lost six straight games to fall to 1-7 on the season and 0-4 in the MAC. The Falcons are just 2-6 against the spread this season, but both coverage have come on the road. As bad as NIU’s defense is, the Falcons is much worse. BG is giving up 45.1 points and 507.9 yards per game, including nearly 300 passing yards per contest. On offense, BG hasn’t been too great. They are putting up 21.4 points and 394.6 yards per game. Turnovers have been a problem as they have 20 interceptions as a team. James Morgan has thrown 11 of them to go with 11 touchdown passes. Fred Coppet has run for 604 yards and three scores while Scott Miller has 58 receptions for 798 yards and nine touchdowns.

Bowling Green has had a rough year, but they are competing in MAC play. They have had their four losses all come by 14 points or less, including a trip to Toledo where they lost by just seven points. NIU is coming off a big win over Buffalo, but that has not been what they have represented most of the season. Perhaps they turned a corner, but I don’t trust the Huskies giving 17 points to anyone right now.
