Purdue opened its 2017 season with a 35-28 loss to Louisville from the home of the Indianapolis Colts. The Boilermakers hit the under of 66 points in the loss. Purdue was outgained 524-344 in the loss and four turnovers really didn’t help. The Boilermakers weren’t able to effectively run the ball, amassing just 51 yards on the ground. At QB, Purdue is still battling between two guys as David Blought and Elijah Sindelar each saw playing time in the loss. Blough was 18-of-26 for 175 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions while Sindelar had 118 yards with two scores and a pick on 15-of-31 passing. Jackson Anthrop caught seven passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
Ohio started its season with an impressive 59-0 win over Hampton last weekend. The Bobcats managed to hit the over on their own, as the total was set at 47.5 points. Ohio had nearly a flawless game last Saturday, as it out-gained Hampton 420-108 while forcing a pair of turnovers. Quinton Maxwell played limited time and threw for 100 yards with a touchdown while other quarterback Nathan Rourke threw for 72 yards and rushed for 50 yards with three touchdowns. The defensive effort was led by Evan Croutch, who had four tackles with two sacks.
Both teams showed offensive prowess in their opener, but the level of competition was much different for Purdue than it was for Ohio. The Bobcats will have somewhat of a rude awakening by playing a Big Ten defense, though not one of the better ones. Purdue should continue to move the ball against Ohio, but the Boilermakers need to settle on a quarterback. Despite all that, the trends still like the over, as Purdue has hit the over in 10 of its last 12 at home while also hitting it in 6 of its last 7 against MAC opponents. I’ll go with the trends to continue on Friday.
