G. Tech vs. Boston College Prediction

Two ACC foes meet up to kick off the 2016 season when Boston College hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday at 7:30AM ET from Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Georgia Tech is the favorite in this matchup, as the Yellow Jackets are getting odds of -3 points against the Eagles. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 44 points. These two haven’t crossed paths since 2012 when Georgia Tech had 37-17 win. These two have hit the under in three straight meetings.

Bet on Georgia Tech vs. Boston College

Boston College was very strong with the under last season, as it went 10-2 below the total in 2015 with its 2-10 overall record. That was due to having a very sound defense with a very weak offense. The Eagles held four different opponents to single digits last year while they were limited to 17 points or less in 10 games. The offense struggled due to a constant rotation of quarterbacks, as four different players saw significant time at QB. The team still hasn’t decided on the starter for this game, as Darius Wade and Patrick Towles seem to be the top contenders. Wade played some last season while Towles is a transfer from Kentucky that threw for 2,148 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2015. Even if the offense struggles, the defense shouldn’t dip too far away from their No. 1 ranking in the nation last year, allowing just 254 yards per game.

Georgia Tech is coming off a 3-9 record in 2015, one of its worst seasons in recent history. The Jackets were 6-6 with the over/under total as they had the tendency to play to the level of their competition. Tech had seven games decided by single digits. The team is led by Justin Thomas, who returns at QB after throwing for 1,345 yards and 13 touchdowns last year. He also rushed for 488 yards and six scores. The Jackets are a run-heavy team, led by Thomas and sophomore Marcus Marshall, who rushed for a team-high 654 yards in 2015. Defensively, the Jackets ranked 43rd in the nation in 2015, allowing 368 yards per game.

This game seems like a good one to take the under. Boston College was one of the worst offenses in the country last year and there are still plenty of questions about the Eagles entering the opener. Georgia Tech is the better team on paper, but the Jackets will likely struggle to run the ball consistently, which is the foundation of their offense. Add to the mix the travel to Ireland, and this could be a pretty uneventful game.
